by Ida Ayu Mas Amelia Kusumaningtyas | 16-08-2020 15:37

Single-Use Mask

In Indonesia, during the beginning of the pandemic, single-use masks along with hand sanitizers were the most sought-out item. There was even a case of people collecting these masks at a large amount and selling them at a high price. Then there are people that sell fake masks, that does not give the benefit of being protected by a masks.

Single-use masks has proved to create pollution if not disposed properly. They can be found on the side of the road, and most often on the beach. It is suggested to cut up the single-use masks in order to make sure no one would resell it and placed inside a plastic bottle.

The solution to this pollution is then fabric masks that could be washed and used multiple times. The procedure is to change these fabric masks every 4 hours. Using fabric masks instead of single-use masks would then help reduce the pollution of masks. Of course, this is for people who need to get out of their house and get daily necessities or do their job. Using fabric will also mean that not many uses the single-use masks, where they would be available for health professional to use.
