Inter-American Air Quality Day

by Kevin Lopez | 16-08-2020 07:18

Since 2002, the Inter-American Air Quality Day has been celebrated every second Friday in August.
The objective of this celebration is to raise awareness about the importance of good air quality. In this way, it seeks to prevent and reduce various factors that cause environmental pollution.
Did you know that every day we breathe an average of 10 liters of air?
Lima, the capital of Peru, is one of the most polluted cities in the world. It is urgent to be able to think of alternatives that lead us to generate a reduction in air pollution.
During the first weeks of the quarantine imposed by the Peruvian State for the COVID-19 pandemic, Lima registered large drops in air pollution levels, reaching measures recommended by the World Health Organization.
Let's celebrate this important date for the planet, but let's also reflect on the alternatives we can offer to reduce air pollution.
The Ministry of the Environment of Peru recommends us: to convert the car to NGV or LPG, doing preventive and periodic maintenance; avoid burning solid waste, classifying it and delivering it to the public cleaning service; use mass public transport in order to reduce emissions; conserve green areas because they are sources of oxygen; on holidays enjoy nature without burning fireworks; move by bicycle or foot if the distance allows it; and participate in actions to improve air quality in our city.
