THEMATIC REPORT- ENVIRONMENT AND ME

by Anishka Jha | 16-08-2020 00:32

During my primal years in school I was introduced to a subject called Environmental science. Initially it was just a subject for me to study and get good grade but in the whole process of studying I got to know the essence of environment in my daily life. I studied about the importance of making our earth sustainable and livable. Eventually when I got associated with community groups working for environment sustainability my journey as an eco-warrior started. I started telling my friends and relatives to be mindful of their daily activities that affects our environment like to use electric gadgets only when required, saving on the printing cartridge and taking printouts on both sides of the paper etc. I participated in environment workshops and seminars conducted by Emirates Environment group. I actively participated in clean up drives and Earth hour, Earth Day events.

I joined my brother, an active environmentalist, in community events. Gradually my brother and I co-founded a community group named ¡°WE CARE¡±  We encouraged  youth and children around us to join our group environment activities. I conducted awareness campaign to make them understand the importance of our activities and how it affects the sustainability of our earth.

I co-organized a Ghaf tree-sapling planting session along with the "Give-A-Ghaf" organization in UAE for my youth group members. Gradually we conducted many such activities like beach clean up drive, Energy conserved is life preserved etc. Not only UAE I also did workshops in India and Sri Lanka.

The most enriching experience I had as a budding environmentalist was my participation in Junior Engineering academy in South Korea. My joys knew no bound when I got the invitation from Tunza Samsung Engineering to attend it. It is rightly said and I quote- We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build youth for the future.  These were the golden words which were reflected in each and every event and activity at the JE academy, from the bright questions raised by children and youth and team-building activities to the individual and group presentations.

I was immensely glad that I had the opportunity to present and address children and youth from so many regions at the global level.

In the last 5-6 years, environment and me have become so intertwined that every small step I take in my daily routine I am environmentally conscious and I intend to make everyone around me go through the same consciousness.
