My Love for The Sea

Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have not been able to see the sea. Even in this new normal era, I find it best to not risk my health. I do miss diving into the sea to look at the marine life directly, and I miss cleaning up the sea floor even more.

I love the sea, because I have a lot of fond memories there. During my childhood, every family outing, my family and I will go to the beach. I love how the wind blows my hair, and how the air smells like salt, as well as the cool water. The beach along with the sea provides some sort of calmness, whereas the beautiful view is so tranquil.

Trash littering the beach however, destroys the beauty of it. Not only does trash litter the beach, but also at the bottom of the sea. These trashes will cover the beauty of corals, and they disturb the corals growth as well. Corals are vital to the livelihood of marine life, where they provide shelters to fish. Plastic bags are often mistaken as food, and they specifically threaten sea turtles that mistake them as jellyfish.

If this waste problem persists, there may not be anymore marine life. No more beautiful corals or cute sea turtles. Nothing left to see nor to enjoy. That is why I started diving to collect trash, or collect it whilst enjoying the view. This is to help the environment in order to retain its beauty and function. Hopefully this pandemic would be over soon and I can be reunited with the sea and continue on collecting trash from the bottom of the sea.
