(Free report: August) Solutions to prevent Climate Change Impacts based in Nepal

by Nishan kc | 14-08-2020 12:10

Solutions to prevent Climate Change Impacts based in Nepal:

In the previous report, I have put my utmost efforts by reviewing many literatures and made available about the present climate change scenario of Nepal and its impact. And in this report, we are going to know about the relevant solution to prevent climate change impacts based in Nepal.

The solutions to prevent climate change impacts in various sectors are listed and elaborated below:-

Agriculture and Food Security Sector: Select the suitable crops according to the availability of water. Dry farmed crops like ginger, barley, buckwheat and millet are suitable for low irrigated land whereas rice and wheat for high irrigated land. Beside common crops, cultivate cash crops (sugarcane, coffee, mushroom etc.) that can grow within short period.  Make a vegetable and fruit garden at home and properly utilize the rainwater.

Forest and Biodiversity Sector: Agroforestry system should be developed. Agroforestry practices involve cultivating vegetables and crops combined with the trees or shrubs. It is used for various purposes like: for fodder e.g., Ipil-ipil, badahar, bakaino; timber e.g., chap, salla, sissoo; fruit e.g., aap, litchi, aaru. Conserve water sources and plant trees around it. Make a habit of planting a trees in different occasions like: Birthday, Environment day and Soil day.

Prevent from Climate Induced Disasters: Environmental assessment is necessary before starting any infrastructural development works. Soil should be conserved in a sloppy and landslide risk area by planting bamboo or nigalo, broom grass, utis and thatch-grass.  Landslide preventive techniques (construction of breast walls and retaining walls) & flood preventive techniques (construction of barrage, walls, embankments and check dam) should be forwarded from local level. Well aware in case the natural disasters likely to occur and have a good place to escape from it.

Human Health: Excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides should be controlled and increase animal manure for vegetable production in according to the suitable season which brings a lot of advantage in our health.

Social Sector: Climate change adaptation programs/trainings should be carried out mainly targeting for poor, marginalized & landless communities, women and differently abled people. Replace fire woods with biogas that helps to improve the women's health.

Other Solutions

a) If possible, make a provision of insurance for livestock and important assets against the risk from natural disasters.

b) Increase the use of renewable source of energy and adopt eco-friendly practices.
