[FREE REPORT] AWARENESS ON PLASTIC POLLUTION AND BREAST FEEDING

by Meena Pandey | 14-08-2020 13:33

The use of plastic is increasing because of its comfort. But the people are not aware about the possible consequences of use of plastic bags in the environment. So, I had made presentation about the plastic pollution and its consequences in the environment and also the alternatives of the plastic bags. As people visits grocery twice to buy the vegetables and other kitchen foods, there comes more frequency of use of plastic bags in the kitchen. So, even in the havoc of this global pandemic me and my colleagues together made the presentation about the breast feeding and beat plastic pollution. The presentation as successfully presented in 5th August. The program was conducted considering the possible way of transmission of corona virus. We had distributed surgical mask and hand sanitizer at the entrance of the school so as to ensure the safe campaign.

Plastic comprise of around 10% of the waste that is generated around the world. We have currently make our effort to recycle 5% of the generated plastics.1 million of plastic bottles is purchased every year. We can think how much the plastics are generated every year. Plastics are ubiquitous in our daily lives because it is inexpensive and easy to use.

We use plastic products because it is convenient to use. Also, it is flexible and has low weight, moisture resistant, ease of manufacture. Because of easy way of using plastic bags, people are attracted to use plastic bags despite its negative impact to the environment. People use the plastics and throw it haphazardly. As the plastic takes around 500 years for its decomposition, when it is freely thrown in the land, it does not easily decay. The process of recycling of plastic bags is not much prevalent. So as for this result, it ends up in the oceans and rivers. Many marine animals mistake themselves and eat plastic materials or get entangled in the plastic. As a result marine animals get hurt or die.
Different color plastics are mistaken for phytoplankton and birds and other creatures are mistaken. Similarly, harmful chemicals are leached out from the plastics. The birds have blockage in their respiratory or digestive tract. The toxins of the plastics are transformed in the food chain as they get absorbed in the animal¡¯s body after they eat the plastic pieces. When humans and other creatures consume those plastic infected creatures, humans are also effected.

Even we use plastic straw to drink the juice in present days.  We can use bamboo straw instead of plastic straw. We can take jute bags to buy daily consumed foods or vegetables. It is often used plastic plates and glass in the feasts or any ceremony, we can use traditional way of making plates by the leaves of Shorea rubusta. We cannot remove plastic usage from our daily lives. However, we can make attempt not to mix plastic bags in soil and water. The most important way of reduction of plastic pollution is the stoppage of production of plastic materials and plastic bags. We should avoid with plastic packaging. Plastics are harmful to use because the gas produced by burning of plastics is also really toxic, it is difficult to recycle, threat to animals, hard to decompose. Plastic bags once ingested cannot be digested or passed by an animal so it stays in the gut can prevent food digestion and lead to a very slow and painful death. Glass and ceramics, woods, plants and animals derived materials, stainless steel are some of the easy way of reducing the plastic items.

Lastly, we enjoyed about the campaign and thanked to the local leaders and the audience.
