[Thematic Report] [Environment and Me]

by Jaewon Chang | 07-08-2020 10:47

Though many climate activists take action on a large scale, this should not discourage one from considering smaller actions to be insignificant. In fact, planning events on a large scale often requires experience, which is acquired through personally engaging with the environment on a smaller scale.

This year, a mathematics club that I founded (by the name of Math MINDS) had successfully merged with the Earth SAVERS (2019 most outstanding UNESCO club in the Philippines). In doing so, the former has inherited all projects conducted by the latter. One of these projects involves a hydroponic and garden set-up at a local elementary school. Recently, this project was recognized by the Urban Garden Initiative, and thus I've been planning a partnership to pursue this environmental project.

On a personal scale, I've taken action in preferring the usage of electric fans over air conditioners, turning off appliances that are not in use, among many more. These actions directly benefit the environment because it consumes less power, which in turn reduces the amount of waste produced in power plants.
