As a trainee of Capacity Building Workshop on Gender Integration in REDD+

The active involvement of women , disadvantage group and marginalized group in diverse areas of forest management activities has been introduced in initial stage of forestry sector.

The concept of Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) has been addresses as one of the pillar of Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (2002-2007) in the policy of Nepal. The present review of GESI strategy in Nepal  showed poor implementation of of GESI so some intervention was needed  for its effective implementation. There was the  necessity of capacity building of government staff, REDD related organization and forest academia  for identifying gender issues, formation of gender team. So, three days¡¯ workshop was conducted with students and faculty member of Institute of Forestry, Pokhara which aimed to sensitize participant about institution gender issues and gender integration in REDD+ program.

The main Objectives of the Training Workshop was :

¡¤         To enhance awareness and sensitization about the importance of GESI within organization and in program implementation

¡¤         To enhance the understanding and implications of the following GESI concepts:

-          Introduction of Socialization and its implications in work and in the community

-          Introduction of unconscious/implicit bias and its implication in work and community

During the workshop, a brief discusion was sparkled  on various topics like how to identify the gender issues, how to raise voice on voilence against women how to work in gender issue in an organizing way, how to make workplace friendly, a brief discussion on awareness on gender rights, bout women empowerment and many more.

Gender issues and harassment exist not only in Institute of Forestry, Pokhara, where I am studying but also on many workplace all around the world. So , this workshop encouraged all the participants to  form gender forum (forum for discussion),to launch awareness campaign for women issues to reduce the communication gaps , to participate more on capacity building program (Trainings or workshop on GESI), zero tolerance (Strict rules against gender issues),

I am very glad to be part of such capacity building workshop.
