July 29 is celebrated as International Tiger Day across the world to create awareness about the dwelling number of striped cat , who are on the brink of extinction , and to encourage tiger conservation. International Tiger Day was created in 2010 at Saint Petersburg Tiger summit Russia. In this summit government of tiger-populated countries vowed to double tiger population by 2022. This year marks 10th international tiger day .On International Tiger day ,several countries discuss issues related to tiger conservation and also try to amass fund for wildlife preservation.

 

Around 39,000 tigers remain in the wild across the globe ,according to World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Since beginning of 20th century , over 95% of the world¡¯s tiger population is lost. A WWF report says that about 100 year , there may have been over 100,00 tigers that roam in the planet.

 

Tiger is called umbrella species as its conservation enables the conservation of whole ecosystem. Several study has shown that Tiger reserves harbour new species ,which are  found practically every year. Tiger reserve also improved the water regimes in the regions where they are located improving groundwater tables and other water bodies ,thus contributing favourably to the climate.

1. Tigers are the largest among wild cats.

2. A punch from the Tiger may kill us.

3. Tigers are nocturnal animals.

4. Tiger cubs are born blind and only half of the cubs survive.

5. Tigers love to swim and play in water.

7. A group of tiger are called ambush or streak.

8. Tiger can mats with other big cats.

9. Tigers have antiseptic saliva.

10. Tigers can sprint at over 60 kilo meter per hours.

18. Tigers do not normally view human as a pray.

19. A Tiger¡¯s penis does not erect even when aroused .

20. Tigers cannot purr.
