A project on Environment Conservation and Waste Management

Introduction: Sindhuli , a district situated in the heart of Nepal lies within the Province no 3. Waste management in the different public places like school, temples, hospitals, roads etc have been a burning issues in this 21st century. The lack of concern of people on maintaining the healthy environment have invited the several deadly diseases risking the life of many individual. To ensure the participation of students and local people in environment cleanliness activities, a sense of responsibility and belongingness needs to be put into them through different methods and tools. Similiarly, the students need to know the value and appreciate the value of clean environment. Hence, the Division Forest Office, Sindhuli have decided to bring a environment cleanliness program by distributing the waste guards in different schools of Sindhuli District. So, I have designed a 5day program in 5 schools which will act as a catalytic role in convincing the students and respected member of the school to enrich their understanding of waste management around their school periphery. So, this project aims at starting up a decentralized waste management scheme in 5 Schools to mark the clean environment around the targeted school area of Sindhuli District.

 

Objective:  The general objective of this program is to understand the level of waste management and benefits of maintaining a healthy environment through distribution of waste guards for proper disposal of waste , in the students of targeted schools of Sindhuli District.

Specific Objective:

1.    To reduce the amount of waste around the school¡¯s periphery through extraction of organic and inorganic waste.

2.    Collection and disposal of existing waste littered throughout the project area

3.    Achieving the waste collection efficiency sooner around the school area.

4.    Final disposal at the waste guard improving the schools environment and aesthetics.

 Targeted area: This project targeted on the 5 different school of the Sindhuli District according to the accessibility, need of the cleanliness program and the efficiency of the program.

Methods:

¡¤       Constructive (Interactive, learning through slide presentation on waste management and disposal)

¡¤       Distribution of 2 separate dustbins for the disposal of organic and inorganic waste separately and also a set of dustpan and a broom for easy disposal of waste around school periphery.

¡¤       The targeted member for this program includes a team of 15 people including conservation volunteers, few staffs of the school, a representative member from District Forest Office, Sindhuli, Ecoclub members.

¡¤       Mobilising the volunteers for collecting the waste around the school periphery and disposing it on waste guard.

 Expected output: The major goal of this program is to involve the students in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. After the completion of this project, I actively engaged students of various level around the district in positive change in attitude and behaviour in maintaining a healthy environment through correct disposal of waste in waste guard.

 

Project team: The project team comprised of me and staffs of Division forest Office, Sindhuli The team contributed in the effective completion of the program.
