Free report Land Degradation

Hey everyone,

Hope you all are fine and doing well!  A few days ago, I was reading an article related to land degradation.  I feel that this is a major concern for the environment.  Today, I would like to give you some information about land degradation.

What is land degradation:

To put it simply, land degradation is the process in which physical environment is affected by human activities. Due to this ,  land is getting affected,  leaving it undesirable.

Land Degradation in india:

India is a country that is under threat due to land degradation.  There are many states which are affected.   In states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha felling of trees for  mining has caused land degradation. Also, In states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra overgrazing is one of the major reasons for land degradation. In the states of Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, over irrigation is responsible for land degradation due to water logging leading to increase in salinity and alkalinity in the soil.

What causes Land Degradation:

In some places, mining sites get abandoned after work is complete.  These leave deep scars.  Many industries like the ceramic and cement industry create huge quantity of dust in the atmosphere. Due to this, the process of filtration slows down.  In addition, industrial effluents cause air and land pollution.

Solution to land degradation:

  • Planting of trees
  • Management of grazing
  • Planting of shelter belts
  • Growing thorny bushes in deserts
  • Management of waste lands
  • Proper discharge of industrial effluents
