National Paddy Day

by Kushal Naharki | 30-06-2020 01:41

The National Paddy Day, celebrated on Asar 15th of every Nepali year, marks the official beginning of the paddy plantation across the country. Asar 15 is also known as the day of the curd-and-beaten rice feast. This is 17th National Paady Day being celebrated this year and theme for this yea is "Increase in Rice Production, Self Indepence and Prosperity"

Mahatma Gandhi said ¡°If you give me rice, I'll eat today; if you teach me how to grow rice, I'll eat every day¡±. The farmers know the value of each rice grown by them and the poor know the value of rice feed to them.

According to the national census conducted around 10 years ago, 6,000,000 metric tons of rice is required to meet the national demand which has increased every year with the population of Nepla now reaching above 3 crores. Agricultural sector has its 27percent contribution to the GDP. Despite being an 'agricultural country', Nepal is heavily dependent on import for rice as other agricultural products and so many other commodities. Last year, it imported rice worth Rs 28 billion. The theme of National Paddy Day promotes the self dependency on rice production in Nepal.
Wishing you all Happy national Paady from Nepal !!
