[Free Report]; "The Rain Is Here"

by Justice Obiri | 03-06-2020 10:20

The raining season is here. The raining season in Ghana which usually starts in the mid of June has eventually shifted over the years. Unexpectedly, this year it started in the early days of the month of May. This was a very big problem. Covid 19 is still terrorising the country as the number of infections keep rising every day. Farmers are scared to visit their farms due to the massive use of man power. Transmission of the Covid 19 could increase because of contacts that may occur as the farmers work on their farms with their fellow workers.

The farmers were still hoping that the rains would come down in Mid-June so no proper plans were laid to adjust in case things do not work as expected. They were trying to secure loans from the government to buy machines and equipment which would help reduce the number of workers and probably limit the transmission of Covid 19 should it appear on their farms.

It was during this same period in May that the rains decided to come down. I will personally attribute this gradual shift of the raining season in Ghana to climate change. And this change is being experienced all over the world. Farmers who only relied on the rains for irrigation of their farms would experience massive loss in production and this should be a reason for us to be aware of the harms we are causing to the environment and its effects in return.

The rains came with its own destruction. Streets were flooded and I personally was victimised by the rain. I was about 250 meters from my house when it started to drizzle on 28th May, 2020. Since our roads are not good, in less than five minutes of the drizzle, everywhere was muddy. I couldn¡¯t stay where I was so I decided to walk through the mud and get home. Unluckily for me I slipped and fell. I was not hurt but felt very disappointed. We have a government who is willing to invest millions of dollars in an ongoing voters register for voting this year. This investment is a total waste of money because we have a voters register already but they claim they want to add facial recognition to it and this would cost the country close to 1.5 billion dollars. Our bad roads could be fixed with just a fraction of that amount of money.

Homes in some parts of the country got flooded and destroyed. Simply because there was no drainage system to serve as a passage for the rainfall. Yet, the government is willing to invest that huge amount of money in voting rather concentrating on infrastructure which would save the country. It is expected that more rain would fall this month of June 2020, which means more destruction will befall us. And in the end, these leaders of ours would run to the aid of foreign countries for assistance forgetting that we have all the resources we need in our own land! Africa needs generational thinkers; it is time for change!
