Biodiversity [Monthly Event]

Biodiversity, according to the Oxford dictionary, refers to the variety of plant and animal life in the world or in a particular habitat, a high level of which is usually considered to be important and desirable.
Simply, what I do understand about Biodiversity is the presence of different organisms that may vary on various levels of biological classification, genus and species being the lowest hierarchical forms respectively. In biodiversity, every little creature matter and that's what we must be concerned of.
As we all know, the theme of this year is- "Our solutions are in nature". So, this theme also has rung us an alarm to turn back to nature and seek out our solutions for it is realized from various calamities including current pandemic that a mess with nature would never result in human welfare.
This year, I also celebrated Biodiversity day by organising a small program of "Distribution of Variety of plants" in my locality. As I think plants are the major part of biodiversity beneficial for maintaining the whole ecosystem, I planned and organised this event. Concerned to the current pandemic and lockdown, I conducted this program within a few children of my community and taught them about basic concepts of Biodiversity and their role in preserving the biodiversity of our community.
I concluded the program by distributing varieties of plants as a start- up effort to each of them. Those plants included- Chinaberry tree ( Melia azedarach), Mango plant, Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) and a Citrus sp. plant. Also, I encouraged them for plantation of trees and useful plants around their house, roadside and every suitable barren land around.
