[free report] Research - The western approach to pollution is different from that of the eastern approach.

by Yuqing Yang | 10-05-2020 22:45

Hello everyone! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy.

Research

Different countries implement different measures in dealing with pollution. China implemented strict bans on emissions and incentivize companies to clean up emissions via taxation. For instance, Beijing is required to reduce its coal consumption by half from 2013 to 2018. In other developing Asia and African countries, housesmoke can be a significant problem, annually killing 2.6 million people. Government incentivize households to change the fuel to LPG and electricity. Moreover, some more developed areas were introduced better cookstoves to ensure the combustion and utilization of wood is more efficient. Some government agencies also aid poorer regions with these efficient cookstoves.

In western countries, such as UK, there are developments with regard to carbon engineering and CO2 capture technologies. For instance, Drax built lots of carbon capture and storage (BECCS) power stations using renewable fuels to generate electricity and CCS is used in fossil fuel firms like  Equinor, Shell and Total, recognizing the value of building storage infrastructure to earn credits from collecting carbon dioxide.

I hope you find it informative and interesting :) At the end, I think it is important that we study and evaluate the current approach in order to improve and innovate on a more holistic level.
