Buddha Jayanti

Buddha Jayanti is special day for both Hindus and Buddhists in Nepal especially for Buddhists. 'Buddha Purnima' is also called 'Buddha Jayanti'. This festival is celebrated mostly in South East Asia. This year Buddha Purnima is on Baishak 25 (Nepali Calander), which is May 07, 2020 in English calendar. 

 On this day people celebrate the life of Lord Buddha; his Birth, Enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana (Death). Buddha was born in Lumbini and Lumbini is in  Terai plains of Nepal, is the place where Prince Buddha was born. He is also known as Siddhartha.

In Nepal  Swyambhunath, Boudhanath and the largely Buddhist city of Patan are the place where Buddha is worshipped the most. Activities at the main Buddhist stupas and shrines begin at dawn and continue till late in the evening.
