Hi

Hope all of you are safe in the safest place ever – Your house!!

Today, I¡¯m going to talk about Paraquat.

Experts seek ban on use of herbicide paraquat for agriculture

As you guys may know (or not know) that other than the tourist destination, Thailand is an agrarian country. So that is why Thailand imported around 44,000 tons of Paraquat in 2017.

Most of the Thai farmers are using it as an herbicide ( plant killer ) and I believe that this substance is commonly used in every country for agricultural sake.

On the other hand, Paraquat also affect farmer¡¯s health and the environment

  1. When you touch it, your skin burns.
  2. When you smell it, it can make you vomit because your body got poisoned.
  3. Drinking 1-2 teaspoon of paraquat can easily send you to the hospital or even the coffin

Yes, it can also create a long-term health effect on people who use it( Lung cancer, heart failure, and kidney failure)

Moreover, Paraquat also left the toxic residues to the environment. According to the experiment (Source no.4), A collection of 150 fruits and vegetables from all over the country in August 2017 of the pesticide warning network found that the most popular vegetables are chemical residues exceeding the standard 64%. Popular local vegetables 43% and fruits 33% respectively. Other than that, the toxins from paraquat can contaminate the water source, and residues can also spread to the plants, animals, and other water sources. So, It remains in the food chain and we surprisingly eat the residues from paraquat and In many samples, the amount is higher than the standard value.

All of these become the reasons why the government should ban or restrict the paraquat.

It harms our lives and we should support more eco-friendly products for the sake of our beautiful word.
