{Earth Day} - Monthly Event "Save Mother Earth"

by Justice Obiri | 24-04-2020 11:34

It¡¯s a new month of the year, my thoughts are in shambles because Covid 19 is still in town. I am sitting down quietly still puzzled as to whether the Government of my country Ghana did a good thing by lifting the partial lockdown it had placed on some parts of the country because the cases are still going up and recovery rate is still very slow. I¡¯ve totally forgotten that I even have a Monthly Event which I could partake in, just then, I had a couple of notifications in my E-mail. I open it to check it up and here we go; Earth day! Earth day!! Earth day!!! From more than five (5) of my mailing lists. I am puzzled once again, Earth Day? But what of the Earth Hour? I do a little research and realise their siblings from the same mother; they may be slightly different but they have a common goal which is to protect mother Earth!

I personally think mother earth is gradually healing due to the Covid 19. So I will preach the goodness of staying home. This goes a long way to prove that we (humans) are actually the major cause of climate change in our environs through some actions we take knowingly or unknowingly. It¡¯s been a couple of months since lockdowns were imposed on some cities and already, air pollutants have reduced in the environs due to decrease in the use machines of all kinds that introduce foreign substances into the atmosphere. So let¡¯s stay home to save ourselves and to allow mother earth to heal.

What actions can I take for mother earth during this Earth Day?

I strongly encourage gardening. It is a really cool thing to do to kill boredom and the stress of staying home during this lockdown. It gives you the opportunity to care about something (what you are growing) and as they grow, they purify the air around you. Safety means being healthy, and breathing in good air quality is one of the best safety measures you could practice.

Technology and digitization is really a powerful tool for saving mother earth today, we could all take this as an opportunity to educate the people about caring for mother earth through various social media platforms. I am not an active social media user but I use WhatsApp so I could flood my status with information about mother earth and ways of helping her to heal more during this pandemic outbreak of Covid 19. It is a collective decision that would Save Mother Earth, and it all depends on you and I.

Stay Safe, Save Mother Earth, Stay Home, Happy Earth Day!
