Thematic report of March- People who have endeavoured to better the environment

by Anishka Jha | 19-04-2020 23:19

Even though our world is going through a myriad of changes these days but if we look back eco-warriors across various countries have gone whole-hog to make our environment better and still the journey is on to sustain the environment around us.

On a personal level my true eco-heroes are my mother and my brother because of whom I boarded this wonderful on line environment  platform.

My mother Sonali Jha, is a front runner right from inculcating good habits and moral values in me to sowing the seeds of sustainable living. During my primal years she used to take me for all kinds of environment activities happening around us. In order to keep me motivated and informed about the importance of keeping our environment livable she made me join various environment groups in Dubai. She made small but impactful changes in her daily routine like less use of plastics at home, use of cloth bags for grocery buying , using steel water bottles, switching off unused electrical appliances, using both sides of paper for printing and recycling of waste papers and many other things. She helped me making environment posters and organize events for school and outside activities. It is due to the endeavourment of my mother that I am an environmentalist today. But she has always been in the background, away from public attention, even though herself she loves nature and gardening.  Her love for nature draws her to do oil paintings of natural beauty. On her birthday she loves to get plants as gifts and whenever she gets opportunities she plants saplings.

My report will not be complete without the mention of my elder brother – Manav Jha, who himself is a former ambassador of this wonderful platform. Manav gave foundation to all the initiative and ideas we formulated as eco-warriors. In order to spread his environment message across the youth and children of our community he formed a Group called ¡° WE CARE¡±. We both as a team worked on various projects like beach clean up, Ghaf tree plantation, art out of waste workshop in Sri Lanka, India and UAE. Car free day campaign and many more. He was also the winner of Samsung Essay writing competition. His work was very appreciated by our mentors here and he got the opportunity to attend Global Youth Eco-Leadership summit in Seoul. He also won Sharjah Environment Awareness Award for his Environment project.  Presently, due to his medical school studies he is not able to give time to Tunza Eco Platform but he is still attached to it through me as he always gives me ideas to initiate my environment work and spread the message of Tunza Eco Generation on line platform.
