by Sudha Bhandari | 17-04-2020 13:19

Covid-19 pandemic has threatened the whole world. In this pandemic all of us are staying safe at home and fighting at home. But the people who are fighting with this pandemic by putting their life on risk are health workers, police and other workers.

Especially the Life of health workers are at risk.We have the news of death of various health workers due to Corona virus. In this pandemic they have become the real heroes.Health workers are in the frontline for the defense of this pandemic.Bjt are the health workers given their rights properly or are they able to utilize their rights properly.

Being a co-ordinator of Amnesty International Khairahani Youth Network a part of the organisation Amnesty International which works to protect human rights I thought I should share about the rights of health workers and aware people about it.

Health workers have the right to considerate and respectful behaviour from their superiors and patients ,they have the right to be free from harrasment ,abuse, attack and verbal or mental abuse from their or pateints or superiors.

They have right to register complain about a patient and persue that complaint through the hospital system or in a court of law without risk to his or her employment.Health workers have the right to reasonable access to the tools needed to perform the duties of their position. They have the right to protect themselves from physical attack.

Health care workers life are at more risk than normal people due to their regular contact with covid-19 pateint and they should be proper protective equipment for their safety by the government. The health workers should be provided the safety kits free of cost. The PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) should be supplied in time as per the requirement. The safety of health workers should be taken seriously because if they fall sick it would be very difficult for others to deal or fight with this situation.
