Health experts have warned us repeatedly on the devastating effects of lead poisoning. Nevertheless, people still purchase and use lead products. Manufacturing companies wear bold faces when manufacturing lead products thereby adamantly ignoring the grave dangers and risks their employees and customers are put in. This is a topic which have been exhausted and will still be exhausted unless various policy makers, governments, world health agencies and all stakeholders act upon it. Regardless of age, race or class, lead affects our health equally. Our bodies absorb equally high level of lead through breath as compared to swallowing. The lead accumulates into our bones causing bone problems. Consequently, short term exposure to high levels of lead causes;
Lead is known to cause placental barrier anong pregnant women thereby exposing the unborn to lead effects including damage to the developing baby¡¯s nervous system. Moreover, exposing babies to low-level lead have been found to affect their behavior and intelligence. Consequently, lead exposure can lead to miscarriage, stillbirths, and infertility in both children and adult. Therefore, it is our duty to ensure that the unborn and the born are kept safe from the devastative effects of lead through using lead free products such as leaded fuels and teaching everyone the effects of lead poisoning. |
