THE RIVERS IN NEPAL

Rivers do have their origins in mountains as a result of melting of ice. And every river's final home is the sea. Rivers are nature's blessed gift to the earth.

There are many rivers in our country. (Among them, Gandak Koshi, Marsyandi, Trisuli, Bagmati, Bishunumati, Narayani, Karnali are some of the important ones, (Our rivers are all holy. Our Bagmati Bishnumati, Gandaki, Narayani etc. all are sacred to us) They all help our agriculture and promote our trade.

In other countries, a river is not looked upon as something holy The "Thames" of England is a center of trade and also the center of pleasure. But it is not a place of worship. The Mississippi of America is the longest river in the world. But it is not a church for Americans Thus, a river in foreign countries is only a means of business. But to us, a river is a holy place, a temple and sacred. And what's more, it is our own mother. British and American rivers have produced only shopkeepers but our rivers have produced poets, saints and Philosophers. Our saints and thinkers and philosophers lived and died on the bank of these rivers. Even today if we go to Devghat Narayani, the lovely and holy place, we find several saints and thinkers.

Civilizations had its birth and grew on the banks of the rivers Even today most of the great cities are situated on or nearby. They are of great importance. Mother as we know, has to suffer much for her children. Our rivers have a similar fate. All our rivers are born on some hills or mountains. There are some other rivers born only on the rainy season. So, they dry up in the summer. But these rivers give us life. They give health and life to fields and forests. They can be used for irrigation. Besides, tourists are also attracted by the flow and fall of water. As a result, tourism industry can be flourished. They can also be used for drinking purposes. If government can spend money, pure drinking water can be supplied in the big cities like Kathmandu. Thus, rivers do have many advantages. A barren piece of land is turned into a lovely garden.

Rivers feed not only our land and plants but also our mills and factory. That is, river water can be turned into a new power called electricity and this, in turn, helps our trade and industry. In the country like Nepal, it is of great importance. Majority of Nepalese people still has to rely on oil lamps and candles. In this case, such rural people can be highly benefited if electricity is generated. Nepal government should give proper attention to this reality.

The main problem with the Nepalese rivers is that they are being polluted. The holy rivers of Kathmandu valley are polluted badly. Rubbishes and wastages are thrown in these rivers.) The government should take proper steps to check these. Moreover, the rivers of Nepal are not properly utilized) (They should be used for irrigation and generation of electricity. The country has to allot sufficient budget for such purposes. If done so, plenty of crops can be grown and money can be earned by selling electricity in neighboring countries.

In water and from water was all life born. And the Hindus complete their journey on the earth after they reach the burning ghat of rivers. Their last destination is ghat from the mother's lap to the Mother River's lap.
