Most of our farmers are not better than beggars. Though they are hardworking, they are very poor. They live in small houses and huts, they eat poor food and wear rags and work from morning to evening. Most of them cannot read and write. They are also ignorant of hygiene and sanitation. Most of them are illiterate. In addition to their work in the field, they tame many kinds of domestic animals like cows, buffaloes, goats, oxen etc. These poor people are hopelessly ignorant. Thus, our farmers are agricultural laborers. They are known by their look. It is a look of despair. They look more dead than alive. There is hardly a line of smile on their faces or ray of the hopes in their hearts. They are hungry and almost naked. Since the majority of people in Nepal are farmers, the development of nation depends on agriculture. The government should provide the farmers with the loans so that they can improve their status. The government should be not late to teach them t scientific and modern farming techniques so that the development of the nation can be imagined. It is the master key to the development of nation. The Land Reform Act has improved their condition to some extent. Similarly, the agricultural bank is providing them with one They still require a great help to improve their condition. The government should give top priority to agriculture. Moreover, they should be willing and active to improve themselves. Until and unless they are ready to improve themselves, nobody can do much to help them. |
