Importance of Forestry in Environment

by Swesha Dhamala | 30-03-2020 00:12

Forest is the area of land covered by tree and woody vegetation. Forests form one third of the total land on the Earth and are essential to the health of our environment.  Forest support countless species including human beings . Forests also offers watershed protection , provide timber and non timber products , helps in maintaining water cycle, checks global warming by using carbondioxide and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere during photosynthesis.

We depends upon the forestry for every aspects of our life like using oxygen to breathe to using wood for shelter. Beside providing habitat for animals and livelihoods to  human beings, it also acts as buffer to many adverse situation of nature like flood, landslide, etc and helps to keep the environment balanced. Forests are the habitat for the millions of animals and supports numerous ecosystem. Many of the earth species lives in the forest. Therefore these animals form their food chain in forest by interacting with each other which as a result creates an ecosystem. Streams and river present in the forest prevent the forest from drying out and support many animals as well.

As talking about the environment, it is the place or surrounding or condition where all the living and non living beings exists and interacts with each other in daily basis. Good environment is necessary for every life on the earth weather it is animals life or plants. Healthy environment is needed for the better growth and development of the of all the plants and animals  present on the earth. Forest is also one of the major components of the environment. It plays most important role in making our environment neat, clean and healthy.

We can find the close interaction between the forest and environment. They support each other and help in maintaining biodiversity in the earth. Healthy environment befits forests in their proper development and in forest supports millions of creatures of the earth environment. Forests also affects in different abiotic components of the environment like temperature, precipitation soil ,moisture and also the biotic components of environment. Forest can make the environment clean by controlling air pollution, water pollution, sound pollution, etc. forest also have the potential roles in controlling soil erosion and landslide and ultimately helps in conserving environment. Forest also play vital role in maintaining the temperature of our environment through their role in global carbon cycle. It also plays important role in biochemical cycle. The world forest contains more than 55% of global carbon stored in vegetation and more than 45% in the soil.

To prevent the environment, it is necessary to prevent carbon emission by conserving existing carbon pools in forests and establishing plantation on non forested lands. The adoption of forest management options that conserve and sequestrate carbon would help to prevent forests from becoming a significant net source of carbon dioxide for the atmosphere in the future and thereby help to offset other factors that contribute to accelerate global warming.

Thus, forests would provide many benefits to the environment and helps in solving many environmental problems like global warming, pollution, flood landslide,  watershed management ,climate change, etc. so forests play vital role in maintaining the biodiversity of this ecosystem. So the forest is very important factor in the environment.
