Earth Hour 2020 (Free report)

by Asmita Gaire | 29-03-2020 11:49

What is Earth hour?
March 28, the day when world celebrates Earth hour. Earth hour is a global event. It was organized by World Wide Find for nature and is held in the end of March annually.

Purpose of Earth Hour
It encourages households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness towards environment and about the need to take an action on climate change.

How was Earth hour started?
Earth Hour was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. WWF Australia presented their concept to fair fax media who, along with Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore agreed to back the event.

My approach in Earth Hour 2020

I have been celebrating this hour since last 2018. I used to switched off lights for an hour and talk with my friends in hostel in 2018.

In 2019, I celebrated it in a slightly different way; I turned off lights and lighted the candle and walked outside for fresh and clean aromatized air. And I talked to friends and took some photographs. Those beautiful and clean sky with stars twinkling, they were truly amazing. It was Tunza Eco generation who had made me aware about this EarthHour; that¡¯s why I took a photo of pot with Tunza Eco generation written on it from Nepal. The photo is attached here within this post also.

Past few years, I used to celebrate it just by switching off lights of several rooms and lighting candles.

This year, I thought something more effective to do. I switched off main switch of my home for an hour (8:30pm to 9:30pm). I had few online meetings which I postpone for Earth hour and also told my friends about "Earth Hour". They were also supposed to follow it and share their experiences with me.

Apart from switching off lights; I lighted diyas and candles in my home. Diyas are symbol of purity, goodness, good luck and power. The light of diyas gives different feeling; a feeling of warmth. In the past, when there was no electricity; it was the only means of light. When there were no any alternative source of energy; during load shedding we used to light and study under it's light. This is one of the effective way by which energy can be saved. I have also told my juniors about it. Surprisingly, many of them followed it. I have attached there actions as well.

This year, lighting diyas and candles followed a different pattern. Since, it was the Tunza Eco Generation who had acknowledged me about this important hour i.e. "Earth Hour". I lighted candles in the shape of "TUNZA". These candles are all lighted from lights of diyas; meaning thereby there's always a feeling of warmth in Tunza. I also lighted candles in the shape of "2020" for regarding year Earth hour of the year 2020. The shape is quite irregular reflecting the ongoing condition of crisis however the candle is glowing continuously depicting there's still a good luck and power and is in the hand of human being self locked who is responsible to put off the lights or keep it glowing.

The photos attached below with handles in a hand is of Miss Jasmine Karki who's already a Tunza Eco Generation active member and she has also beautifully pictured Earth picture with a meaningful message on the occasion of Earth Hour 2020. In addition to this, a girl with a diya in hand is none other than another active girl in the field of agriculture, her name is Nistha Dawadi. Thank you girls for being part of it.

This year, on the occasion of Earth hour; I must say I didn't celebrate it within myself. I was successful enough to make impact among my juniors of university as well.

Does Earth hour make a difference?
Certainly yes, Earth hours make a mammoth difference. No one knew the phonemenon that the Earth hour stated in March of 2007 in Sydney Australia would make. It represents the immediate need of action towards global climate change. The way earth hour makes a big difference, you can too.

How Earth hour benefits the environment?
The initiative takes accountability around the world encouraging individuals , businessses and governments for their ecological footprint. It makes people indulge in dialogue and resource exchange that provides real solutions to our environmental challenges.
Just by switching off lights for an hour, you can bring a great difference in the energy consumption. This help reduce effect of global warming in this planet. Isn't it amazing?

So, how did you celebrate it?
I hope you also had an awesome hour. Don't forget to share it.

Happy Earth Hour!
Green cheers!
