'Earth Hour' 2020 - Conserve Electricity [Monthly Event]

by Justice Obiri | 29-03-2020 12:17

Earth Hour is actually a fun way of conserving energy (electricity) for the general good of a nation, a continent, and a world. This is actually my first time of participating in such event and I will like to recommend it to every individual out there. The whole idea behind this wonderful hour is that, you will turn off all lights in the house on 28th March for one hour. It was funny to concede that idea for the first time, but giving it a second thought actually proved that it was very worth it.

Within this stipulated one hour of no lights, I realized I could conserve energy which could be used for another day. This energy conserved, would go a long way to reduce my electricity bills and I will save money. It was during this hour of no lights that I again realized that I've been the city of Accra for long without using a candle or any other source of light in the evening apart from the bulbs available through the electricity provided to the house.

So I decided to use candles as my source of light on 28th March 2020 and I was careful not to keep it burning for long since it also generates carbon dioxide which could endanger my health as well as those around me. I did enjoy the Earth Hour, it was an eye opener and I am glad that through it I conserved electricity. I will therefore practice it any day I get the chance and each and everyone of you such endeavour to do same.
