The Seasons

by Rijana Adhikari | 29-03-2020 00:21

We do not have the same seasons all year round. Seasons change, as do all other things in the world. Change is the law of nature. In our country, we have four main seasons: summer, autumn, winter and spring. The summer and the winter seasons last nearly four months, while the autumn and the spring nearly last nearly two months. The seasons are caused by the revolution of the earth around the sun with its axis inclined to the orbit. If the axis of the earth were not inclined, we would have the same season throughout the year.

The summer season begins in May and last till August. It is a hot season. The valleys and the hills are hot, but the high mountain remain cool. It is hot and dry for two months. In July, the rains begin, and the temperature cools down a little. The people have a sigh of relief. Agriculture starts with the coming of the rain. Farmers begin sowing seeds. Autumn season begins in September. It is a mild season, neither hot nor cold. It is a happy season. However it only lasts for two months.

After the autumn, we have the winter season. It begins in November and last till February. It is a season of hardship. It is a cold season. It gets colder and colder as we proceed northwards. People have to wrap themselves with warm clothes. It is difficult for people to go out for work. There is snowfall on the hills.

Slowly, the winter season makes room for the spring season. The spring, like the autumn, is a mild season. It lasts two months, March and April. The spring is considered as the king of the seasons. It is a fine season with mild sunshine. There is no rainfall in this season. Plants and trees put forth new buds and eaves. The green leaves delight our eyes and fill our minds with joy.

We are fortunate to have these four seasons in a year. The different seasons are conducive to different activities. Life would be dull if we had no change of seasons.
