[Thematic report] An off screen environment warrior

by Sachin Regmi | 22-03-2020 13:42

A great Hollywood star, Oscar award winner and a great environment campaigner. This is the film star which many youths like to be inspiring- he is Leonardo DiCaprio. He has showcased what it would be if mother nature feels the other way in his award-winning movie The Revenant (2015 film). Many of us may be well known about his film career and personal gossips but in this article, I will be talking about his campaign not known by the majority of the public- Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

In their webpage (https://www.leonardodicaprio.org/) they have introduced themselves as a new organization that has been supporting addressing the urgent threats to our planet¡¯s life support systems. They have also stated that they work to accelerate the rate of change and adoption of environmental solutions on a global scale.

Founded in the year 1998 they have funded $100M to date through 132 grants in 5 countries supporting 50 green organizations. They support innovative projects and program which primarily focuses to protect vulnerable wildlife from extinction while restoring balance to threatened ecosystems and communities. They work on six thematic areas- Wildlands Conservation, Oceans Conservation, Climate Change, Indigenous Rights, Transforming California, and Innovative Solutions.

I have heard his visit to Suklaphanta National Park here in Nepal. How amazing environment warrior, he is. The earth needs more green people like he is Leonardo DiCaprio.
