Thematic report «Vernadsky and his theory about the biosphere»

by Nikolay Dagaev | 19-03-2020 01:34

Good day and good health to all! Today I want to tell you about a person who played a special and important role in the formation and development of ecology. This is the great Russian scientist Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky — the Creator of the doctrine of the biosphere.

The doctrine of the biosphere of V. I. Vernadsky is rightly considered the greatest scientific discovery, comparable to the theory of relativity of A. Einstein or the periodic law of chemical elements of D. I. Mendeleev.

V. I. Vernadsky proved that life on earth is a cosmic phenomenon, that the biosphere is a material and energy system that provides the biological cycle of chemical elements and the evolution of all living organisms, including humans.

Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky was the first to see a complex and well-regulated planetary biogeochemical system in the biosphere over many hundreds of millions of years of evolution. Not only do we owe the composition of the atmosphere and hydrosphere to the work of the biosphere, but the earth's crust itself is a product of the biosphere.

What is the biosphere?

Vernadsky called the biosphere the shell of the Earth created and transformed by living organisms, which he gave a common name — living matter.

In the structure of the biosphere, he singled out the following basic components: living matter, inert (dead) substance, a non-biogenic substance, bioinert substance.

V. I. Vernadsky called living matter a set of living organisms that inhabit our planet. This is the main force that transforms the surface of the planet, the basis for the formation and existence of the biosphere itself [1].

Living matter has quantitative characteristics and can be studied using mathematical laws. The amount of living matter in the biosphere (biomass) is a constant or little - changing quantity over time. The scientist emphasized that modern living matter is genetically related to the living matter of past geological epochs [1].

By inert matter V. I. Vernadsky understood such substances of the biosphere, in the creation of which living organisms do not participate. These are, for example, gases, solid particles and water vapor emitted by volcanoes and geysers.

In addition to living and inert substances in the composition of the biosphere are included: inanimate biogenic substance that is formed by living matter of modern and past geological epochs (fossils of organisms, oil, coal, atmospheric gases, lake silt, sedimentary rocks, for example, limestones);

biokosny substance that was created simultaneously by living organisms and inert matter (for example, soil, water of inhabited reservoirs, clay minerals) [2].

V. I. Vernadsky emphasized in his works that the history of the origin and evolution of the biosphere is the history of the origin of life on Earth. The development of the biosphere goes along with the evolution of the organic world-the composition of its components changes, borders expand, and so on.

The result of Vernadsky's scientific activity was the creation of the doctrine of the noosphere – the sphere of mind.

But that's another story ¡¦
