Laligurans-National flower of Nepal 🇳🇵

Lali Gurans, meaning Red Rhododendron in Nepali, is the national flower of Nepal. There are more than 30 species of rhododendron in Nepal, with dozens of varieties in all sizes and colors. The Rhododendron Arboreum (Lali Gurans tree in Nepali) is the most famous and attractive amongst over 30 species of rhododendrons found in the hills of Nepal.

Lali Gurans are found at altitudes as low as 1,200 meters and as high as 3,600 meters. The flower grows throughout the whole length of Nepal and is remarkably colored in all shades of red, pink and white. Its trees reach a height of up to 15 meters, the tallest in Nepal, and also it has the largest trunk, the biggest flowers and the earliest and longest span of blooming.

Every flower has its own time to flourish but only some flowers bloom every time. Lali Gurans also has its own time to flourish. Its blossoming heralds the advent of spring, usually in March or April. During these months, it decorates the forest with its natural beauty. When it flourishes, no one can resist looking at the combination of red flowers against the green forest. When the red color of this flower mixes with the greenery of forest, the whole forest looks like a decorated bride.

Sweet, as well as a bit of sour, taste is found in Lali Gurans. Not only people, but also the bees and butterflies come to suck the nectar of this flower.

Ranchers who lead their cattle into the forest climb the trees for the flower and cut it to put it in their ears. Girls who gather grass and wood put the flower in the knot of their hair.

It can also be used as medicine. After soaking it, different kinds of medicine can be made. Once dry, the dust from this flower helps melt bones. According to common belief in Nepal, a sip of the juice of the Lali Gurans flower dissolves fish bones stuck in the throat. It also helps to cure those patients who are suffering from dysentery. The dust of this flower should be mixed with the starch of the boiling rice and given to the patient.

It is the most beloved flower of Nepalese. Everyone respects this flower, thinking of it as a national symbol. It has many more merits and no flaws. Lali Gurans is the hero among all flowers in Nepal. It not only decorates the forest, but also decorates the country of Nepal as well.
