Environmental Aspect of The Film Parasite
The award winning film Parasite talks about the gap between the rich and the poor. The film depicts the living condition of these two
groups of society and how much the environment effects them. In the film, a storm occurred. While the Kim's were returning home
during the downpour, they discovered that their home have been halfway submerged in water.
Jakarta has recently been in this situation. The part where rain poured, and homes were flooded. As a backstory, flood is a common
occurrence in Jakarta. However, it's usually until knee length. Meanwhile, the recent flood have submerged houses. Rain endlessly
poured down from the sky during new year.
I am lucky enough to be living in an area where flood doesn't happen. But I can't imagine all the people that had to evacuate during
that disastrous flood. I saw pictures circulating online, about rescue boats, animals being stuck, and so on. However, I was in a dry
place where I couldn't relate to the people caught in flood. The film Parasite has showed me how lucky I am to have a good shelter.
Sometimes, pictures don't speak as load as a film. In a film, people's emotions are played. We see the changes in emotions where this
hepled us further in understanding situations as well as how lucky we are to have what we have. The film Parasite had opened my
eyes, and taught me to sympathize with people who are currently dealing with an obstacle in life.
