Visit to wetland area, Celebrating world wetland day 2020

Koshi tappu wildlife reserve- Nepal


Protected area comprising area of 175 km2, ranges in altitude from 75 to 81 m on terai extended over three districts. It was established in 1976 and designated as Ramsar Site. 

This place is popularly renowned for the habitual residential area of wild water buffalo k/a ¡°Arna¡±, and wild boar. It is identified as one of the important bird area of Nepal. It shows mixed type of inhabitants and biodiversity in vegetation and fauna (endangered and vulnerable). The vegetation of the reserve is mainly characterised by mixed deciduous riverine forest, grasslands and marshy vegetation. The coverage of grasslands is 68%, compared to only about 6% of forest. Nearby Sapta Koshi river, tributary of Ganges result massive and catastrophic flooding during the rainy season and responsible for the huge water courses and extensive number of ponds. It favours the grassland, pastureland, dense forest, timbers, aquatic animals, terrestrial animals, diverse nature of flora.

I made plan to celebrate and support this world wetland day by visiting one of the wetland of my country. That¡¯s how I manage to travel and get to know the diversification of nature. I attended the program held there with theme ¡°Wetlands and Biodiversity¡± sharing the status, conservation, strategies, plan, policy, future approaches and prospective to increase the number of Visitor in this protected area.



It's in our hand to conserve or move on way of destruction.
