It's Pangolin Day

by Bal krishna Pandey | 15-02-2020 22:28

#Considered the world's most trafficked mammal, the eight species of pangolins - originating in Asia and Africa - are now classified as "vulnerable," "in danger," or "in critical danger of extinction," according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. (IUCN) Red list of endangered species. Four of the species found in Southeast Asia are largely concentrated in Indonesia while the other four are in Africa, but all are threatened by the false belief that their scales can cure a multitude of diseases.

#Compared to the dangers faced by other endangered animals such as elephants and tigers, the fate of the pangolin has failed to penetrate public consciousness in Southeast Asia. At this frantic pace of the pangolin trade in the region, this special animal will disappear before people can even get to know it.
