WAY TO CHAMPADEVI HILLS

by Meena Pandey | 13-02-2020 03:10

Last week I had gone hiking in Champadevi hills which is located at west of Kathmandu which is one of the most famous pilgrimage site for both Hindu and Buddhists. This hill is assumed to be the third highest hill around Kathmandu valley. After a long time, I was able to give my full time to friends to be happy with nature together.

So, we planned to visit Champadevi hills. It was located at the height of 2278 m above sea level and there were deep cliffs around. I don¡¯t think it is in access of the old people and vehicles. All what we have to do is walk on foot. As it is the place for religious pilgrims many people often visit there. However, due to geographical issues, the way to site lack hotels and motels. All what we have to do is to bring snacks and foods by ourselves. As for the result when people carry plastic wrapped foods, there create a problem of disposing it.  However, I am very happy to see Mira Rai¡¯s initiative towards waste management in the way to Champadevi . The initiation has placed doko (bamboo basket) in different point to the way of Champadevi temple. However, it was not enough to place doko only.  What if the doko gets filled with waste?

The doko was full of litter and over-flowing. It is the matter of melancholy when I see the most beautiful place get messed. In the place where it lacked bamboo basket, it was disposed haphazardly. It creates a great push in a tourism sector.

I think such a place which carry a lot of potential towards tourism and also the place of many pilgrimages must be given due attention in solid waste management and also the litters created during hiking in such a high hill.
