The Punishment Sign

We should not play horn so many times that it can lead to deafness and make people consider the old, the young and the sick. Loud sounds can damage sensitive structures in the inner ear and cause hearing loss. This makes conversation and other daily activities more difficult, as well as many other health problems. Exposure to noise causes adverse health effects such as stress, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and heart disease.

I am here with an example of the use of technology to reduce noise pollution in my neighbouring country, India, where noise pollution exceeds limits.

The Indian police in Mumbai have come up with a brilliant idea to control this problem of unnecessary use of horns, and it is called "The Punishment Sign". Their only initiative to regulate the city's perpetual honkers, who like to blow their horns from their vehicles even when the road sign is red. In order to curb the alarming increase in noise levels in the commercial capital of the country, they have installed decibels in selected but intense traffic lights to discourage the usual horns through a campaign called "The Punishment Sign". Decibel monitors are connected to the road signs surrounding the island, and when the cacophony due to unnecessary noise exceeds the dangerous level of 85 decibels, the signal timer is reset, resulting in a double waiting time for all vehicles .

I think this is a more targeted initiative to raise awareness rather than punish. In Nepal, most populated cities are declared as No horn Zone, which is the great initiative towards sound pollution.
