THEMATIC REPORT: Slow poisoning of India

by Sandhya Adhikari | 27-01-2020 01:00

¡° The chemical war is never won and all life caught in its violet crossfire¡± said by Rachel Carson.

Our major weakness may be food, but had we ever realized even for a second sitting ahead of the table during lunch and dinner that how much our body is getting a well required amount of the required nutrients from the food we are consuming, and does the food that enter to our stomach really contains good amount of the nutrients?? I found somewhere there that we ingest pesticides more than 40 times what an American could consume.

Before starting, I would like to offer my sincere thankful ness to Our Mentors for coming up with such a great theme for the month, Due to my hectic examination schedule I couldn¡¯t show my active participation at Tunza, As soon as I got a mail, I was so much excited that this is really one of the things that I had been searching for a long time, Thanks to mentor that they made my task so easy.

Jumping into the topic, one of the documentary that hit me is ¡°Slow Poisoning of India¡±, India being the neighbor country of mine and one of the biggest importer to my country, this video caught my sight which is really so meaningful from both environment and health perspective.

¡°The slow poisoning of India¡± is a 26 minute documentary film directed by Ramesh Menon and produced by the New Delhi- based , The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). It has clearly dealt with the possible danger of pesticides on both the human health and the environment. Being an Agriculture student, i have ever given my keen eyes and focus for the pesticide impact, I had also ever encouraged farmers of my reach to emphasize on the organic farming so as to reduce the carbon foot print on the ecosystem.

Slow poisoning of India is threatening our life, farmers are using pesticides for the sake of the money, for the gain that is damaging other¡¯s life and environment,  One of the time bomb for the  modern era is that eating such  food full of pesticide residues, the banned pesticide are still used in the crop which has deteriorated human life so dreadfully, the pesticides impact are blooming, those land and water bodies are contaminated so rapidly after the green revolution, health is another casualties, bugs, insects and superbugs are becoming resistant day by day, water bodies are changing into the chemical bodies. This is really so havoc to see such  a dreadful situation.
