Are elephants also suffering from plastic pollution?

by Bal krishna Pandey | 16-11-2019 01:25

Friday 15 November
Not only the marine creatures, wild animals like elephnats are affected by the scourage of plastic wastes. So today I have organized a presentation program among the emerging veterinary doctors about effects of plastic pollution in wildlife. The program was conducted at the conference hall of Agriculture and Forestry University, Chitwan. About 35 veterinary undergraduate students and 15 postgraduate doctors were present at the program, also the delegates from International elephant aid, US.Elephant Aid International (EAI) is a nonprofit organization that creates innovative approaches to the care and management of elephants.
It was a great moment that I met Carol Buckley( founder of Elephant aid internaional) two days ago and we made a plan to organize presentation seminar about elephant health and welfare. She shared her knowledge about elephant health and welfare. And Anju sharma Chapgain, beautifully presented on the topic " effect of plastic pollution in wildlife" focusing on elephant within 25 minutes. At last I gifted them two eco stationery and few notepads.

Plastic pollution is becoming a threat to the wildlife in south asian countries. So it is necessary to aware the people about it in time. Veterinarians can play a great role to make people aware in ground level because most of them are directly related to small scale farmers in Nepal.
I want to give thanks to elephant aid international and my dear friend Anju Sharma Chapagain for making this program fruitful and successful.
