Some Facts on Renewable Energy

by Arjun Anand | 04-11-2019 18:23

Dear friends,

I would like to share some interesting facts which I had compiled regarding worldwide renewable energy production, milestones and the hurdles

1. More than 50 countries and hundreds of cities and regions worldwide are committed to some form of 100% renewable energy target.

2. Asia Region accounts to 44% of the global total. Asia and Oceania are the fastest growing regions in renewable energy implementation.

3. Australia has the highest concentration of solar radiation per square meter on Earth, making it environmentally ideal for solar power generation.

4. Renewables provided an estimated more than 26% of global electricity generation by year¡¯s end.

The renewable energy sector overall employed (directly and indirectly) around 11 million people worldwide in 2018.

5. Despite progress in renewables uptake, energy efficiency and energy access, the world is not on track to meet the targets of the Paris Agreement or of Sustainable Development Goal 7.

6. Global energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions grew an estimated 1.7% in 2018 due to increased fossil fuel consumption.

7. Renewable energy have become increasingly cost-competitive compared to conventional thermal generation.

Still worldwide countries are depending on energy developed from fossil fuel and lot of laws, awareness, coordination and technology have to developed/changed to meet the worldwide renewable energy targets.
