[Thematic Report] Renewable Energy

by Nishan kc | 27-10-2019 00:14

Greenhouse gases are being a major concern nowadays. Carbon dioxide (C02) and methane (CH4) are the principal gases that contribute to Greenhouse and we are facing numerous life threatening effects due to this. Excessive use of non-renewable source of energy like fossil fuel; Coal, petroleum and natural gases are the main cause behind the increasing greenhouse gases. Now, Renewable energy is the only one of the best alternative to overcome from it.

Renewable energy is the energy produce from the source that doesn't deplete or can be replenished on a human timescale. Sunlight, wind, tides, rain and geothermal heat are included in this type of Energy.

Major types of Renewable energy:-

Hydro power Energy: Hydro power is currently known to be the largest renewable energy use for power generation around the world. In this type, electricity is produced from moving water that doesn¡¯t produce pollution to the environment like other fossils fuel.

Solar Energy: In this type, Electricity is produced from sunlight radiation through chemical reactions in the solar cells. This type of technique is mostly used in those areas where direct electric current are absent like in rural.

Wind Energy: In this type, strong wind is used to provide mechanical power that induced electricity and operate the mill. It is traditional and cost effective too.

Geothermal energy: This type of energy is derived from the earth's internal heat. It can be extracted without burning a fossil fuel such as coal, gas, or oil. It is also cost effective, savings from direct use can be as much as 80 % over fossil fuels like coal and petroleum.

Renewable energy, the Clean Energy

The demand of renewable energy is currently increasing because of following advantages:-

¡¤       Safe, cost effective and non-harmful to environment.

¡¤      Abundant in comparison to non-renewable sources.

¡¤      Doesn't deplete or can be replenished on a human timescale.

¡¤       Stable, clean and current demand by developed countries.

¡¤       Existence in multiple forms.

Contemporary climate change and Greenhouse problems are increasing in extensive rate due to excessive consumption of non-renewable energy sources like coal and petroleum. It is the major concern in the developed cities. So, many countries have given priority to renewable energy and its sources. In my assumption, the current climate change and greenhouse problems will automatically decreases to some extent if some of the developed countries use renewable energy sources.
