World Food Day 2019

by Kushal Naharki | 16-10-2019 23:00

October 16 is celebrated as World Food Day. The theme of World Food Day 2019 is ¡°Our Actions Are Our Future. Healthy Diets for A #ZeroHunger World". It focuses on Sustainable Development Goal No. 2 Zero Hunger. As I had stated ¡°1.3 billion tons of food are wasted every year ¡°in Eco Fact 5 of the Eco Fact Series. Tackling food wastage remains a major challenge for Zero Hunger World.

We are having season of festival in Nepal with Greatest Festival Dashain recently concluded and Tihar already knocking the soon. Large amount of food is lost during festivals. we already know food security has been a great challenge to us, food wastage has been a serious problem causing food insecurity. Nepal is a food deficit land locked and least developed country, having a population of more than 27 million people. Around 49.3 percent of under-five children are chronically malnourished. (UNDP, 2009)

On the occasion of World Food Day, I am sharing a small video about the food waste to aware people on food waste and sustainable goals.
