Air Pollution in India

Prescribed standard of air quality in India has deteriorated over the past few decades. Air pollution has been a topic of major concern in India. Fourteen cites of India are included in the list of twenty most polluted cites in world by WHO. There are several sources of air pollution in India, trees include burning of crops, dust particles from construction sites, no proper waste management, emission by vehicles, deforestation etc. Several auto rickshaws and taxis use adulterated fuel causing pollution levels to rise.

The problem of air pollution needs to be tackled with quick and effective remedies. There is need for out of box ideas so that rapid relief can be provided. India has taken certain innovative measures to beat the menace of air pollution     

1. A Revolution from Pollution

Chakr Innovation is a Delhi based revolution that prevents air pollution. It uses the world¡¯s first retro-fit emission control device for diesel generators. Ninety percent of particulate matter emitted from the exhaust air without reducing energy efficiency is captured. Inks and paints are made out of the diesel spot that is captured from the exhaust.

2. Solar Ferry

The first solar ferry of India is know as ADITYA. It was built by NavAlt Solar & Electric Boats. This technology is an innovation of engineering and naval design. It comprises of solar power and has advanced controls. The energy for running the ferry is provided by the sunlight. It can run for over 6 hours on a sunny day. EightY percent of the of its energy is from the sun and it has a capacity of 75 persons. It is India¡¯s first commercially feasible solar-powered ferry.

3. CleanTech for Health and Clean Air

An engineered enzyme is used to make antibiotics by Cellzyme Biotech from Coimbatore. These antibiotics are made at room temperature without using solvents. Solvents are a major contributor to the air quality. This new and interesting production process has led to the reduction of the environmental footprint. The replacement of these jarring industrial chemicals leads to the better conservation of energy.

4. Cooking with Radiant Heat

Agnisumukh is inspired by the cooking on charcoal method, the traditional Indian cooking method. These are very efficient cooking stoves, flameless, voiceless, smokeless. There is high thermal energy with uniform radiant heat. It improve cooking, saves  approximately 30% on gas with this it also helps in beating indoor air pollution in the kitchens.

5. Biomedical Waste Management

 Any kind of infectious material in the waste can be called biomedical waste. Microwaves in the Indian market  are available that treats infectious waste and eliminate polluted air emissions , these include persistent organic pollutants.
