My first experience of Plant-for-the-Planet academy

by Harshdev Punera | 30-09-2019 19:56

On 14th September 2019 I along with my uncle and fellow ambassador, Dharmendra Kapri organized a Plant-for-the-Planet environmental awareness academy. The academy took place in St. Patrick Inter College, Poliganj, India. Altogether 76 children from 8 different schools attended the academy.

We started the academy with the registration process and every participant received a Plant-for-the-Planet tshirt at the beginning of the academy. After the registration process we started the presentation ¡°Now we children save the world¡±. Topics like climate change, climate crisis, global warming and climate justice were explained in a very simple and easy language. After the presentation children had the opportunity to clear their doubts through a doubt clearing session.

After that children were divided into 6 groups to learn about the global distribution of resources and climate justice through world game. Just after the world game activity children remained in the same groups and discussed various topics like How can children save the environment, Their action plan and future plans, what different sections of society can do, what government should do, how to involve media in the whole process. Children discussed all these topics through a brainstorming session and noted down all the topics in a chart paper and presented in front of the all other students.

After the group activities children planted 15 trees in just 45 minutes with the help of Eco-club incharge of the school. He also explained How and when to plant a tree and How to take care of a tree.

After the Planting Party children were asked to give a shortened version of the morning presentation, their future plans and outcomes of the school groups and group discussion.

After that we also conducted a session on Tunza Eco-generation. We told them about the various opportunities they can get as a TEG member/ambassador and gave them TEG leaflets, pencil and post-its.

After a long and fruitful day all participant received their certificate along with Plant-for-the-Planet book, Tree by Tree.
