How Dare You!

Friends, most of you will know Greta Thunberg a 16 year young environment activist who has  addressed the recently concluded UN's Climate Action Summit in New Yourk, USA. She made it to New York City after her 15-day carbon free voyage by yacht from Plymouth, England. 

A tearful address by her dominated the Summit, where she accused world leaders of betraying her generation by failing to tackle greenhouse gas emissions and asked them "How dare you?" she remarked for the world leaders who attended, You have stolen my dreams & my childhood. I should be in the school on the other side of the ocean.

During the past year, Thunberg has earned international attention for her solo protests over climate inaction that grew last week into a global strike that drew an estimated four million participants around the world.

Activists like her are required in each city of all countries in the world. The climate change is happening at a much faster pace than we have ever imagined. The current actions are dominated by economic causes that resists a strong action against climate change.

A few countries have pledged concrete actions like UAE. It announced a 50 per cent clean energy target by 2050, more than doubling ongoing moves away from fossil fuel dependence. The jump in the UAE's existing clean energy mix – 24 per cent by 2021 – will be generated from renewable sources and nuclear power. In an announcement on the sidelines of the United Nations' climate action summit in New York, Climate and Environment Minister Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said the move was an important step forward.

“Lately, we have witnessed a surge in the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events around the world,” he told reporters.

Such activists & such nations both are important in tackling this menace.
