1. Environmental studies teaches as about forest conservation, deforestation etc. We have seen in the past that population has been increased drastically which has generated pressure on natural resources. The forest resources are threatened due to overgrazing and cutting of trees. They are used for commercial purposes as well as household activities. Eco-development programmes help in preservation of trees and forests. 2. Environmental studies teach us diversified ecologies. It includes conservation ecology, pollution ecology etc. Conservation ecology deals with the application of ecology principles to the proper management of resources leading to sustainable yields of useful resources to human welfare. Resources ecology deals with the renewable and non-renewable resources and their judicious management. Pollution ecology deals with pollution, its affects and how to reduce it. System ecology deals with the analysis and modelling of ecological systems. Radiation ecology deals with radioactive substances, radiation and the environmental affects.
3. Environmental issues have gained international importance such as global warming and ozone layer depletion, acid rain etc. There is a need to tackle all these issues which are addressed by environmental studies. 4. Today there is a need for an alternative solution. It has become a necessity for nations, especially developing Nations to find alternative paths to an alternative goal. It must include the following- i) A goal common to all citizens of our Earth.
ii) A goal which is ultimately true goal of development- which is sustainable and environmentally sound. 5. It is important to save human beings from being extinct. 6. There is also need for voice planning of development. any kind of action such as resource use, processing etc. need proper planning. |
