Asparagus,wonder vagiee

by Dibya Bhatta | 12-08-2019 22:06

Asparagus is high in antioxidants and packs a powerful punch of healthy vitamins and minerals: fiber, vitamins A, C, E and K and folate. It¡¯s also a great source of copper, an essential trace mineral that aids in
collagen formation, energy production and iron absorption. This nutrient-dense vegetable is one of the best sources of natural inulin, a type of fiber that is not digested in the digestive tract. Instead, it acts as a prebiotic which helps support a healthy gut flora.
I collected those asparagus seeds from Nepal Agriculture research council where I work as an intern and bought them home.
I prepared a bedding material in a plastic waste coffee cup.Every time I plant something ,I try my best to reuse the waste and make the most out of it.
For the asparagus,
I prepared a mixture of saw dust, wood Ash,garden soil and sand and poured in the coffee cup and spread the seed over it and cover by the thin layer.
After 10days the sprouts of asparagus are visible in the cups.
After a month they will be ready to transplant to the soil and during next spring they will sprout and ready to serve as Vegetable in our plate.
They are considered most nutritional vegetable and sold at RS.600per kg in the market of Kathmandu.
So by growing it on my own I can save money as well feed my family a healthy organic veggie!
You can try this at your home as well.
