![]() Hi everyone, I thought of sharing with you all a glimpse into how I celebrated my birthday this year. As an Ambassador for Green Environment, Energy Savings, and Sustainable Development, I was determined to celebrate my birthday this year in the most environment-friendly way possible. So, on 26 July 2019, I turned 21 years old. And this was a special birthday. My 1st birthday as a Tunza Eco-Generation Ambassador. And I did the following things to send an eco-friendly message to my family, friends and acquaintances : 1. I switched off all electronic appliances (all lights and fans in my house especially) for 3 hours in the evening to send a strong message of judicious use of energy resources. What lighted my birthday were eco-friendly, biodegradable candles that didn't pollute the environment. 2. I'd specifically urged my family and friends to not bring me flowers/bouquets. This was to spread awareness about something I personally feel very attached to - should we really cut down plants, chop down stems, and pluck flowers for the sole sake of entertainment & frolic for a few hours ? Killing flora was the last thing that I'd personally want someone to do. So, I said no to bouquets. Rather I insisted them to bring me saplings, if they're so keen on gifting me flowers - let them gift me flowering plants. I'll water them everyday and give them a chance to bloom & flourish every day. My mother actually gifted me a neem sapling. I've planted it right infront of house since a lot of trees have been uprooted due to the recent typhoon - Fani. 3. I turned vegetarian for a day. I said no to killing of animals on my birthday. I didn't eat any meat/poultry/animal products on my birthday and requested my family to do the same as well. 4. I used public transport and walked wherever possible so as to conserve fuel. And since then, I've continued to use public transport for commuting on a daily basis. So, this is how I, a Tunza Eco-Generation Ambassador, celebrated her birthday. I urge you all to consider the idea of Green Birthdays and thus, quickly spread across the message of environmentalism.
