![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() How to reduce plastic pollution Plastic was not used for manufacturing and producing goods until 1855. But we have clogged up our planet intensively in the last 163 years. The main reason for plastic pollution is our reckless waste-producing lifestyle. Following this style of life people are facing a threat to be buried under piles of garbage. As a result of this trend 5 great pacific garbage patches have appeared in the World ocean. They occupy more than 1,6 million kilometers. It covers an area of two Texas states. Recycling has reached the same level of importance as economic or political problems. It has become a concept of sustainable development. Nowadays the best scientists still can't find an alternative or eco-friendly way of recycling, which would be harmless and applicable in all countries. On the other hand, there are the rules called ¡±5 Rs¡± : reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, rot. They can teach us how to eliminate waste pollution. There are also different ways of garbage processing such as incineration, storing litter in a landfill, waste pentagons with trash and chemical treatment, ejecting garbage into the ocean. Unfortunately most of them are doing more harm than good to the nature. To sum up, ¡±recycling¡± is definitely the safest way of getting rid of litter. It is difficult to break the vicious circle in which we have got stuck: the more things we create, the more things we reuse. The more things we reuse, the more garbage is generated. The world¡¯s dumping ground is increasing day by day, polluting our nature more and more. People consume food, which nature gives them. It means that people have started to consume rubbish as well. We have to stop this trend as soon as possible coming to a brief conclusion that the most productive strategy in a struggle against plastic - is refuse. Humanity has existed for centuries and it was possible for our ancestors not to use plastic. Unfortunately, all 7,5 billion people, who live on our planet , won¡¯t stop using plastic immediately. It is a time-consuming process, which is integrated step by step. I suggest dividing this process into some phases :
1) Nowadays social networks have a huge influence on young generation¡¯s behaviour. We could use this opportunity for spreading information. I consider that this topic could become very popular or catch a hype-wave, because ¡±green living¡± means a lot for health. I have a personal blog on Instagram, where my followers get some tips. For example, how to recycle rubbish at home or how to reuse old clothes. I write some motivation texts, because I want people to realize ¡±My every purchase, every cigar-batt, every coffee to go destroys the nature on my planet¡±! I am confident about success of this method. It really works. If zero waste lifestyle became popular, people would change their minds and start to buy paper shopping bags instead of plastic bags or hold their own cups to buy a coffee. 2) It is impossible to attain one¡¯s objective without motivation. As I was reading a book by Bea Johnson ¡±Zero waste home¡± I realised that I want to change myself, than my family, than the whole world. One month later I gave a lecture about zero waste living to a company, which is engaged in recycling in my city called ¡°I SORT¡±(¡°¬Á ¬³¬à¬â¬ä¬å¬ð¡±). Afterwards I became an eco-volunteer. I think It is a great way to change something. Unfortunately, there aren't any benefits for volunteers in my country. That's why no one wants to be involved. And I was surprised when I saw how different Germany is. There are so many possibilities to reuse, refuse, recycle, to buy some food without any plastic packages. Although, there were a lot of eager beavers. They protested against animal violence, air pollution, etc. It gave me an idea of how we should bring volunteering to a new level. I offer to create an international organisation for motivated people. How can we attract people to join? Here is the answer - this international organisation would contain an exchange programme for its members. This way, volunteers from different countries could share their knowledge with each other. Moreover, they can make some short record films, exhibitions and open own shops with ¡±reused¡± stuff. Many people don¡¯t even know how to recycle rubbish. We can create an App, which will offer to learn some tips during the game (in a game format). In conclusion, I want to say that am not a scientist, so I can't invent something cutting-edge but I am an enthusiastic person. If such enthusiasts struggle against plastic pollution together, they'll win. |
