When people make instant noodles, the plastic packaging would be left behind as waste. The same could be said for instant coffee, candy wrappers, and such that are all made out of plastic. These plastic packaging, sachet, and wrappers amount to the problem of the many plastic people produce daily. Moreover, these plastics are hard to recycle and it is possible that these waste end up at sea. Luckily, there is an innovation called eco brick that serves as a temporary solution to this plastic waste problem. Eco brick has a lot of usage. They can be made into a chair, or a table, and an eco brick can even be made into a wave breaker. Eco brick is made out of plastic packaging that are shredded and pressed inside a plastic bottle. Making an eco brick is not as easy as it seams. The plastic used have to be clean. If the plastic wrappers are dirty, then they have to be washed and dry. No soap is needed. Then the clean plastics should be shredded. After that, stuff the shredded plastic inside a plastic bottle and press them down using a stick or the sort. This is done in order to ensure that there is no air and is packed, so that the eco brick could be strong. The eco brick produced are then weighted in order to see that between one eco brick and the other the weight are the same. Anyone can make an eco brick. I personally have been collecting plastic packaging from the instant noodles I cook. I intend to use the plastic to make eco bricks rather than to throw them away. However, I have not gotten to shredding them and stuffing them in a plastic bottle yet. The reason I am going to make eco bricks is because I want to be more responsible with my waste. When I have made eco bricks, I plan to drop them off at a place that accepts them. Currently, I have one box full of plastic packaging from 3 months of collecting them. But the box is not packed, since I do not press the plastic down. I will share an update on my eco brick making once I get the chance to make them. |
