Sustainable development and the environment

by Abdul Qoyyum Oriola | 15-07-2019 21:13

Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Sustainable development and its environment are gaining recently increasing attention and a growing momentum in multilateral diplomacy. During the United Nations conference on sustainable development, which was held in June 2012 in Brazil, the international community renewed its commitment, in an integrated manner between its three dimension ( economic, social and environment ), as well as poverty eradication. It has three main pillars : economic, environment and social. These three pillars are informally referred to as a people, planet and profits.

The goal of sustainable development to meet the need of today, without compromising the needs of tomorrow. This means we cannot continue using current levels of resources as this will not leave enough for future generations. Stabilising and reducing carbon emissions is key to living within environmental limits.

The interests of sustainable development are focused on people. The development and environmental needs of present generations must be addressed without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The principle of social justice.

The main features of sustainable development are :
1) it respects and cares for all kinds of life formed,
2) it improves the quality of human life,
3) it minimises the depletion of natural resources.

Sustainable economic growth while promoting jobs and stronger economies. All of the above and more while tackling the effects of climate change, pollution and other environmental factors that can harm and do harm to people's health, livelihood and lives. Sustainability to include health of the land, air and sea.
