condition of use of pesticides in Nepal

Since early century, 1950s, Nepal has been importing the chemicals such as DDT, Gammexene, and nicotine sulfates, which were initially used to control malaria but today almost 70 years later, the haphazard use of pesticides has dominated our agricultural practices. Instead of discouraging its use we have let them to be the integral part of our farming even though it possess multiple health risk. According to latest estimate,the annual import of pesticides in Nepal is about 211tons a.I. with 29.19% insecticides, 61.38% fungicides, 7.43% herbicides and 2% others. Pesticides has the high potential to harm the non target species of the field and circulate in the environment through biomagnification, with their accumulation producing a toxic effect.
undoubtedly, the increasing use of pesticides in fruits and vegetables is a serious concern as it is directly related to human health. Majority of farmers are unaware of the fact the consequences of pesticides type, level of poisoning, safety precaution and potentials. Also incidence of poisioning has drastically increasing because of intentional, incidental, occupational exposure especially in the commercial pocket areas. 
According to Himalayan Times, the government has been showing concerns in recent time to stop increasing pesticides use in fruits and vegetables after the level of pesticide residue in both domestically produced and imported fruits and vegetables were noticed to be quite high. Especially those fruits and vegetables imported in the country from india in recent times have been found to have excessive pesticides and insecticides(more than the threshold i.e. found above 90%). However it is not the first time that the government is gearing up to control the flow of fruits and vegetables in the market that uses high amount of pesticides, Earlier in 2015, MoAD had set up a pesticide residue testing laboratory at the kalimati fruits and vegetables market and had also decided to set up such labs in Nepalgunj, pokhara, Butwal, Biratnagar, Narayangadh.

However, the pesticide residue testing lab in kalimati has not been functioning well while the government hasnot been able to properly execute its plan to set up such laboratories in other planned cities as a result of which we are cooking poison in our kitchen. Have anyone imagined of consequences of eating those food wrapped inside the poison? Especially offseason mangoes ripened before its ripening stage, is impregnented with the chemical calcium carbide, early ripening chemicals which is more fatel to the human with the carcinogenic property.
Eating pesticide- laced food is the cause of the wide variety of diseases in humans. One of the most deadly ones cancer, disruption in endocrine organs and neurological disorder. The threat of diabetes is on the rise on a depper level, pesticide residue could even lead to the damage of cellular DNA, creating mutagenic effects. Pesticides had directly created a devastating environment to all those aquatic creatures, also the environment, where the remains of residue are left. The ever growing use of pesticides has caused alarm the world over. Nepal is already high risk country due to lack of control procedure. While other countries adopt the practice of quaranting and conducting pesticides residue test for farm product. But we have been unable to do and especial thanks to the negligence of concerned authority for letting to enter the food to our kitchen which is almost never chemical free.

So, realizing the situation we yes we ourself must have to shift us to the sustainable agriculture with integrated approaches for pest, nutrient, water etc management like crop management practices, soil management, use of biofertilizers and more importantly use of bio organisms for the management of pest rather than pesticides as well shifting to the organic farming with the balance use of both organic and inorganic fertilizers.
